Warranty Cost Analysis for Second-hand Products Using Bivariate Approach

چکیده

5.1 INTRODUCTION Up to now, warranty cost models for new products have been analyzed. In view of the present day market, customers are more attracted towards the secondhand products. Thus the present and the succeeding chapters of this thesis focus on analyzing the secondhand products by providing two-dimensional warranty for such products. A two-dimensional warranty policy is characterized by a region in a two-dimensional plane with one representing time and the other representing usage. A typical example is an automobile warranted for three years or 50,000 kilometers of travel. Blischke and Murthy (1992) developed a taxonomy to classify the different one and two-dimensional warranty policies. Kim and Rao (2000) dealt with two-attribute warranty policies for non-repairable items and derived an analytical expression for two-dimensional renewal function and cost of warranty under the assumption of bivariate exponential failure distribution. Yang and Nachlas (2001) described two approaches to

Cost Analysis on Warranty Policies Using Freund's Bivariate Exponential Distribution

Purpose: In this paper, the minimal repair-replacement warranty policy is used to carry out a warranty cost analysis with warranty servicing times and failure times that are statistically correlated to bivariate distributions. Methods: Based on the developed approach by Park and Pham (2012a), we investigate the property of the Freund’s bivariate exponential distribution and obtain the number of...

Warranty Cost Analysis for Second-Hand Products

For second-hand products sold with warranty, the expected warranty cost for an item to the manufacturer, depends on (i) the age and/or usage as well as the maintenance history for the item and (ii) the terms of the warranty policy. The paper develops probabilistic models to compute the expected warranty cost to the manufacturer when the items are sold with free replacement or pro rata warrantie...

An Approach to Model Second-hand Products via Quasi-renewal Processes

Motivated by the quasi-renewal approach in the preceding chapters which emphasized the importance of improved repairs during warranty, in contrast to a replacement, the present chapter analyzes the impact of degree of repair for second-hand products employing quasi-renewal processes. In general, the significant factors which contribute to warranty cost analysis of second-hand systems are age, u...

Two echelon-two indenture extended warranty distribution network under imperfect preventive maintenance policies

Nowadays, offering extended warranty is considered as a lucrative source of income from the perspective of the after-sale service providers. Meanwhile, the main concern is presence or absence of base warranty and strategies adopted by the manufacturer during this period. Moreover, extended warranty structure must be responsive and customer oriented, which not only control the services cost but ...
